We are looking for an R & D Engineer to support product development creating new solutions for existing products and new products. Good use of sheet metal design, fabrication, and finishing in order to deliver a finished product and experience in technical fabric technology. You need to be prepared to work on the shop floor to bring designs from the drawing board to life. Report of design procedure and log changes through the design life cycle.

Job requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the validity of product performance criteria through evaluation of marketing requirements, customer feedback, field research, competitive product performance, latest product standards, and application of experience.
  • Carry out primary design & performance calculations and evaluations to produce models and design drawings / specifications.
  • Translate ideas and sketches etc. into 3D models, drawings and specifications, that comply with company and other standards, using Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Provide primary design calculations and notes on anticipated stresses within parts manufactured from drawings when subjected to their intended use.
  • Provide prototype design models / schemes / drawings for purposes of estimating and evaluation on proposal designs.
  • Carry out hand son testing with design components to evaluate against specification and design
  • Offer technical advice and information to other departments.
  • To liaise within the company, with suppliers, customers and others to ensure that all relevant information is used in the preparation of drawings and specifications.
  • Investigate faults & failures, participate in Design Reviews, modify drawings and / or, prepare work packages for others to carry-out as necessary.
  • Witness and evaluate results from testing and other tests and analyse the effect on design.
  • To take on any other tasks as deemed reasonable by management

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Proficient in either Solidworks or AutoCAD
  • Experience in Microsoft Office packages namely Excel

Desirable

  • Machinery experience including welding or grinding
